   Open Questions

1.                 Which part of the course did you find most useful?

Selection of materials for digitisation

Admin tips for running a big project

Steve Tanner

Grant Young – Technicial issues

Thursday afternoon session

Each section complemented the other

Introducing digitization

Management issues – Simon Tanner

Metadata – TA – Grant Young

All of the course was useful as an introduction to the whole area of digitizing collections.  All aspects covered management, preservation, access and metadata

2.     Which part of the course did you find least useful?

For the metadata part would have been nice to have more exercises/brainstorming

Possibly ‘Turning the pages’ – but still worth including

Turning the pages

The BL – interesting but PR focused

It was all useful

All useful

Purely technical information – was not relevant for my needs but the level to which it was covered seemed important for the course as a whole

3.     Have you any other suggestions for improvements to the course?

Take into account times of transport – trains from Dublin

Could have broken up Steve Tanners talk.  It was very dense but interesting

If all lectures provided print-outs of overheads – would help with note taking

            NC was excellent and informative

            Handouts would have been useful

More handouts would have been helpful

4.     What other activities would you like to ANLTC to offer?

Would be great to have some hands on workshops i.e. xml etc.

            Follow-up training on this topic

Would it be possible to keep a register of current/planned digitization projects _ to avoid duplication?

            Copyright in audio visual materials

Workshop on (funding bids for) developing large resource collections – as academic resources (to form part of the workshop, please)

Further digitization – in more detail

5.     Any other comments or suggestions?

          Very helpful event

In the long Thursday pm session it might have broken the time better if we’d taken the tea break a little later.  Concentration became difficult towards the end.  It would have been useful to have a copy of all the overheads especially for writing down URLS.

Thoroughly enjoyed the event

Afternoon session, day 1, could have been broken down into 2 sessions.  Tea breaks are too soon after lunch

            Room too hot

            Water please
